DOUBLE HOP I sit here upon the hill, watching the sun disappearing, thinking about the morning's infiltration. The rest of our small army sleeps in their tents below, barring one; who is jogging over to me now. I smile at Millia as she sits down beside and follows my eyes to the horizon. I break the growing silence. "Well, it's almost finished. If this goes to plan, we'll all get to go home... And rest safely." She picks up on my longing easily. "Where is your home, anyway? It's not here, on this world, is it?" The words jolt me, and I turn to stare at her. "What? How did you figure that out?" She scoffs slightly, "it took me a while, sure. I still don't really believe it, but it's the only thing that makes sense. Your tactics are unheard of, your looks don't match any region - even from across the ocean - and most of all, you know things about the world that's far beyond the rest of us. Like those... What did you call them, 'chemicals' you told us about. Even though you 'don't know much', the bit you've told me still puts you far above our most talented genius. It's impossible to just be a prodigy, you must have come from a more advanced civilisation." "I thought I'd been more subtle about that... Does this mean everyone knows this?" "I doubt it. Most of what tipped me off was back when I first met you, when there were only the four of us journeying together. And I don't think the brothers have connected the dots yet." "So... Will you still let me lead, even though you know that?" She scoffs more heavily - halfway to a laugh. "*You* should have worked *me* out by now. Of course I will. And since I won't tell anyone else, you won't have to worry about their complaints. No, I brought this up so I could ask you... If we both make it out alive tomorrow, will you take me back home with you?" I'm stunned for the second time. Isn't Millia far too forward? My heart is starting to speed up; she practically just confessed. Sure we've had a handful of intimate moments, but most of those were out of necessity. "I haven't even figured out how I'll be able to get home yet, letalone have any idea if I can bring someone with me! I need to find that old man from my dream still. Look, let's... Talk about this some more tomorrow. I won't be leaving right away, and we need the sleep now." I get up and sprint back to camp, without waiting for her reaction.
